BlackBerry abusers are buzzed about the introduction of the Adobe Flash Player 10.1 toolkit and how it will possibly redefine the BlackBerry OS experience if and when Research In Motion incorporates this coding into its platform. It’s evident in the videos and pictures of the new BlackBerry OS6 webkit that RIM has wanted to advance its browser capabilities and have taken steps to insure that the next generation of web browser include more optimized tools that we as BlackBerry users have desired. (i.e. the acquisition of Torch Mobile which includes the Iris browser integrations of widgets and open source platforms)
What will integrating an Adobe Flash Player mean for enhancing our media browser capabilities? Adobe states that their flash video experience will not be weighed down with the “buffering now….” messages. A user will always be watching the selected video. In Flash Player 10.1, a user will now be able to load through HTTP streaming or server push streaming. This conversion will provide a greater amount of random access to the video.
Let’s realize too that a player of this scale has certainly been recognized as being memory intensive. As BlackBerry users have started to see RIM move towards improving device memory capabilities, Adobe has geared is player to optimize the content but states that the reality of the experience will be directly related to a devices memory resource. Justin Everett-Church writes in an Adobe Developers web article, "In the end, each data type consumes a certain amount of RAM that can't be changed. For complex applications, there simply may be a need for more memory than is available"

Google Voice is now open to all U.S. residents, as the company on Tuesday removed the requirement for prospective users to receive an invitation in order to sign up for the service. Service features include a single phone number that, when called, rings a person's multiple lines, such as their home, office and cellular phone. Google Voice also offers voicemail message transcription, free calls to the U.S. and Canada, low international calling rates, conference call capability and a central, Web-based voicemail inbox. A subset of Google Voice features can also be used by people who don't want to get the single Google "phone number for life," but rather use one of their existing lines.
This is an excerpt from todays press release :
" A little over a year ago, we released an early preview of Google Voice, our web-based platform for managing your communications. We introduced one number to ring all your phones, voicemail that works like email, free calls and text messages to the U.S. and Canada, low-priced international calls and more—the only catch was you had to request and receive an invite to try it out. Today, after lots of testing and tweaking, we’re excited to open up Google Voice to the public, no invitation required.
Over the past year, we’ve introduced a mobile web app, an integrated voicemail player in Gmail, the ability to use Google Voice with your existing number and more. Over a million of you are now actively using Google Voice, and many of the features released over the past year (like SMS to email and our Chrome extension) came as a result of your suggestions, so thanks! "

That is the word people. Verizon Wireless made the move to select OS 5.0.0.713 as it's next maintenance release for the BlackBerry Storm2 9550. I'm sure most of us 9550 users were caught sleeping when this OS was made official by TBay Tel last week. And I for one am surprised that Verizon followed so quickly to select this OS as its next official but nevertheless. What's even better is that if you try to find out what the enhancements are, you are directed to a PDF that is highlighting a BlackBerry Tour change log. That should get fixed in time.
Most of us have had a chance to learn the ins and outs of this OS if you are a Storm2 owner and you may be one of those who like this build but then again you may not. Maybe you prefer to only load an official. If so, this is your next build for the BlackBerry Storm2.
Be sure to back up your device. If you have gotten to know this OS, be sure to share your thoughts with the rest of us.

Official: BlackBerry Bold 9700 OS 5.0.0.743 by Rogers
Well as far as Operating Systems go the 9700's seem to have a very solid base to them (not being biased or anything lol). Rogers have let loose this official version for its users to upgrade their devices but if you want to try it out for yourself download it remove the vendor.xml file, install and away you go. Be sure to leave some comments to let others know what you think about it.

A couple of days ago, the Wall Street Journal ran an article stating that RIM was indeed testing not only a touchscreen phone with a slide out keyboard, ( the 9800 ), but they are also testing a tablet device to serve as a larger screen companion to it's BlackBerry smartphone. They also stated that these could be available by the end of the year. But what else is RIM working on ?
Here's a snapshot of RIM's product roadmap, courtesy of a recent research report from RBC analyst Mike Abramsky.
I noticed that there is no mention of a Storm version to be released in 2010. We have read rumors of a Storm 3 being released this year, and possibly the Storm 4 following in 2011. The exclusion of the Storm 3 on this roadmap can only make one wonder if 2010 will be "Storm-free".
Certainly there will be many more rumors to follow....so stay tuned. Please leave feedback and share your opinions.

A couple weeks ago we told you about an app called Trillian that was an all in one IM client for BlackBerry devices. The app is in beta and the developers want the public to help squash some bugs. The response to the app was very positive but it was obvious that there were some major bugs to be worked out. The developer has just pushed out Build 215 that addresses many of the complaints users had about the first build.
